Abstract [eng] The trends of citizens decreasing in Lithuania in 21 century have been happening unevenly and among different territories are being recorded big differences. Assessing benchmarks, there is worse situation in municipalities with dominant village citizens structure, but cities have been loosing the largest amount of citizens. In 2001-2015 years period in Kaunas municipality population decreased by 82 000 poeple, Klaipėda city – 39 000., Šiauliai city – 31 000 and Panevėžys city – 26 200 people. In Vilnius city municipality population decreased only by 11 000. Analysis of demoraphic changes specifi city in the country biggest cities showed, that although there are negatives demographic trends in Lithuania (population decreasing, rapid citizens aging, children decreasing) Vilnius municipality saves demographic stability, also according forecast, from 2025 years demographic situation in Vilnius might get better (similar trends possible in Klaipėda city). Analysis of migration streams (especially internal) showed, that territorial mobility trends of citizens from small country cities and districts have been doing a positive impact to population concentration in the biggest country districts. On the other hands, the smaller and economically less attractive country districts have been getting more empty. There is a threat, that social and economic differences big and small (with less citizens) country districts can grow. It is imperative to carry out regional politics in Lithuania. It would be better to focus in kaunas, panevežys and šiauliai cities process, because rapid population decreasing in these cities can limit these municipalities economic development prospects in the future.
