Abstract [eng] Public opinion polls towards immigration are an inherent tool for observation of migrants’ integration processes, relevant for shaping migration policy and its measures for migrants’ integration. The aim of the article is to present attitudes of the EU and Lithuanian citizens towards immigration and to propose some assumptions of their occurrence. Data of Standard Eurobarometer survey and national public opinion poll carried out in Lithuania is presented in the article. First of all, it is discussed that negative or positive preferences towards migration are influenced by such macro level factors as dynamics of migration and the reasons of arrival, as well as socioeconomic aspects related to unemployment rate in the country. While presenting results of national public opinion poll and looking for the reasons of their occurrence, besides macro level factors, micro level factor – respondents’ education level – is also taken into account. Finally, in accordance to the data of national public opinion poll it is presented that the perception on migration is mostly shaped by the media.
