The question of dialect is important not only for linguists but for ordinary people as well. Often we can hear concerns if dialects in the future will remain as it was before, what can be done to save it, and that they would be fostered and not forgotten by the next generations. The goal of this work is to find out what is the south highlanders (Varena, Druskininkai, Alytus, Marcinkonys, Valkininkai) 7-12 classes students named \"dzūkai\" opinion about to the dialects and the standard language, and people who use them. To compare the answers, there was interviewed 30 adults aged 25 to 55 years old. The results of the study has shown, that there is some sort of consumption limit. From both, students and adults perspectives, In public, officially it is more suitable to use standard language while using dialect language is more acceptable when interacting with friends, family and people you know Choice of which language to use is determined by the situation: it is spoken in public or privately, with friends and family or with people you have just met, because both, students (27%) and adults (55%) mainly claimed, that it depends on the situation. Both students (58%) and adults (67%) assured, that they are not ashamed to use dialect language, but still uses common language, that's why its is not surprising, that a lot of respondents claimed, that both dialect and standard languages are needed. So, for students and adults, dialect speaking does not associate with life in the countryside, poor education, older age, Narrow-minded or old fashioned people. Opposite, many dialect speaking people seem to be self-confident, friendly and honest. From one perspective, dialection is considered to be a national and ethnographical value, on the other hand certain restrictions for dialecting speaking are revealed. |
