| Abstract [eng] |
The article deals with the price competitiveness of Lithuanian poultry eggs, shows the results of analysis on changes in prices over a few recent years, presents a comparison of egg prices with those in other EU countries as well as the impact of price changes on the demand of Lithuanian eggs in the domestic and foreign markets. The analysis of egg prices in Lithuania showed that the price of eggs for a long time was going up. As a result, the eggs of Lithuanian producers lost competitiveness in foreign markets. Even in 2009-2010 when the price in Lithuania declined, the competitiveness did not improve. The demand for eggs in the retail market was almost stable though the price was going up. During the economic recession eggs as relatively cheap and quickly prepared products were saleable. The retail price in 2009-2010 went down because of the strong competition of Polish prices. |
