Abstract [eng] |
The article deals with price changes in the Lithuanian market of poultry meat, the factors that have influenced these changes as well as the results. The analysis of the wholesale and retail prices of poultry meat showed that these prices, after a few years of growth, in 2009 started to drop. This tendency lasted until March 2010. Since 2008 the decrease in the wholesale price was conditioned by the lowered prices of poultry feed that make up the largest share of production costs. The lower demand for Lithuanian chicken meat in foreign markets also had an influence on the decrease of the wholesale price. The demand again started to grow when the wholesale price of chicken meat started to go down. Changes in the retail price of poultry meat were slower that those in the wholesale price, but it also did not avoid a fall. Surely, changes in the retail price were caused by the lower wholesale price. Much lower price of chicken meat in the Poland market played an important role as well. As a result, in Lithuania the demand for poultry meat declined by more than one tenth and the retail prices were reduced. |
