The article presents the changes of harvest in 2005-2010, amount of purchase and trends of vegetable prices in 2008-2010 in Lithuania. The comparison of the prices in Lithuania with those of its neighbour countries is presented. The changes in foreign trade of vegetables as well as the tendencies of production and sales of vegetable products are analyzed. Lower harvest of vegetables not only in Lithuania, but also in surrounding markets, supply from other countries and change of prices in neighbour countries determined a rapid jump in prices of vegetables in 2010. Prices of vegetables, harvested in 2010, were higher than a year ago, especially in the 4th quarter. Purchase prices jumped up more than retail prices. The prices of carrots and beetroots were the lowest and the prices of cabbages – the highest in comparison with neighbour countries. |
