Abstract [eng] |
The article presents economic processes going on in the Lithuanian grain market and their impact on the change tendencies of grain purchase prices. The Lithuanian grain market is very close to a monopolistic competition and theoretically interdependent forces of supply and demand should determine grain prices. But this is not always the case - while grain prices are decreasing, supply of grain is not decreasing but often increasing. The reasons that affected the interdependence of supply and demand and influenced the changes in grain prices are revealed in this article. In 2010 compared to 2009, grain exports declined, but the grain harvest, which decreased even more, determined the drop of grain supply on the market and created preconditions for growth in grain prices by 44.5 per cent. In order to decrease grain supply and increase grain demand on the market and create economic preconditions for growth in grain prices at least by inflation, the conclusions and proposals are presented. |
