The article deals with the trends of production of milk and dairy products, sales on the domestic and foreign markets, and import. The changes in milk purchase price, wholesale, export and retail prices of dairy products as well as the price comparison with the corresponding prices in other EU countries are presented. Since half of dairy products are exported, the changes in the world demand for dairy products and prices have a large impact on the Lithuanian market of milk and dairy products. In Lithuania, like in the world market of dairy products, until the autumn 2009 the prices of milk and dairy products were declining but later started to grow. However, the average yearly prices were noticeably lower than in 2008. For the larger part of the year declining prices caused the decrease of production and sales of milk and dairy products. In 2010, as compared to 2009, the average yearly prices of milk and dairy products are expected to be growing, but not exceeding the 2009 year-end prices. The production amounts of milk and dairy products are expected to be stabilised as well. |
