Abstract [eng] |
The article presents economic processes going on the market of grain products and their impact on the prices of grain products, analyses how the decisions of grain producers, related to the prices of selected grain products, assure the key marketing aim, i.e. the maximization of profit. The average wholesale prices of grain products that started to decrease in August 2008 declined slightly in 2009 as well: the prices of wheat and rye flour decreased much more than those of rye and wheat bread made from the best-quality flour. The retail prices of the said products went down even less. The price fluctuation caused and adequate changes in the structure of retail prices of grain products. In EU-27 countries the farmers’ share in the retail price structure was declining very unequally. In Lithuania its decline in the retail price structure of rye bread and the best-quality wheat flour was caused by the noticeably reduced purchase prices of grains (rye by 47.3%, food wheat by 35.9%) and almost steady retail prices of grain products. Insignificantly declining prices of grain products and continually falling purchasing power decreased the sales of some grain products on the domestic market. The annual decline of the consumption of grain products by nearly 4% conditioned respective downtrends in other segments of the market of grain products as well, i. e. the production of the majority of grain products and the processing of cereal grains were decreasing. Many grain processing enterprises took successfully the opportunity of the emerged economic preconditions and did not reduce the prices since the demand for grain products like for many other key food products was relatively inelastic. |
