The paper deals with the changes in foreign trade of agricultural and food products over the I-III quarters of 2009. The export of agricultural and food products, as compared to the same period of 2008, declined by 11.6% and the import by 19%. The turnover of foreign trade decreased by 15%. The trade balances during the I-III quarters of 2005-2009 were positive, and in 2009, in comparison with the same period of 2008, increased 2.1 times. The largest amounts exported made up dairy products, grain, fruit, waste of the processing industry, animal feedings, preparations of meat and fish, vegetables, while fruit and nuts, fish and crustaceans, meat, various beverages, vegetables were among the largest amounts imported. The exports into the EU countries made up 63% of the total exports of agricultural and food products, and the imports from these countries accounted for 69% of the total imports. Russia, Latvia, United Kingdom, Estonia, Italy were the major countries of Lithuania's export while the largest amounts imported were from Poland, Netherlands, Spain. |
