Over the I–III quarters of 2008, in comparison with the same period of 2007, the export of agricultural and food products increased by 21 per cent and reached 6385 million Litas. The import went up by 29 per cent and amounted to 5689 million Litas. The turnover of foreign trade, in comparison with the I–III quarters of 2007, increased by 24 per cent. The trade balances in the I–III quarters of 2005–2008 were positive and reached 697 million Litas in 2008 or declined by 19 per cent compared to the same period of 2007. Among the largest amounts exported were dairy products, cereals, fruit and berries, vegetables, waste of the food industry and prepared animal fodder; while among the largest amounts imported were fruits and nuts, meat, various beverages, vegetables, fish and vegetable oils. 58 per cent of products were exported to the EU countries and the import from these countries accounted for 82 per cent of the total import. The largest trade surplus was with Russia, Latvia, United Kingdom, Algeria, Belarus, while the largest deficits were in trade with Poland. |
