The paper focuses on the practices of gift giving from class community to teachers at the schools funded by the state in Lithuania. The paper discusses how the boundary between a gift and a bribe is constructed by different groups of informants. The findings are contextualized in broader research tradition in anthropology and other social sciences on gift giving and corruption. |
