Abstract [eng] The monograph examines how the interplay of such dimensions of identity as ethnicity and religion is constructed in different social contexts (such as the school, the religious organisation, the local community or the media) in contemporary Lithuanian society. In this monograph we are interested in answering a number of questions: whether religion (Catholicism or Orthodoxy) is used to draw boundaries between ethnic groups (Polish, Russian), or conversely, whether religion is seen as unifying or inclusive of different ethnic groups; whether and how identification with a particular ethnic and confessional group leads to certain experiences of inclusion or exclusion within a broader ethnic or religious field; what social processes and historical experiences have led to the current ethnic or religious identifications of the research participants; how the ethnic and confessional identities constructed by the research participants interact with media constructs. The empirical data consist of semi-structured interviews performed in Vilnius, Kaunas, Visaginas, Šalčininkai, Švenčionys and Švenčionys region collected in 2019-2021 and Lithuanian media in Russian and Lithuanian languages (1990-1992 and 2018-2020) content analysis.
