Abstract [eng] |
A person’s opportunities to obtain higher education, his position in the education system is determined by various factors. The analysis of structural factors that influences he possibility to obtain higher education, in Lithuanian research is rather limited. It is crucial to analyze factors related to individuals’ originated from socially vulnerable groups access to education, as various studies show that this group is under-represented in higher education. Therefore, the aim of this article is to review the structural factors that can lead to the acquisition of higher education by individuals originated from socially vulnerable groups. The article reviews the existing research about structural factors related with acquisition of higher education; describes a pilot study of the path of socially vulnerable people in the education system and reveals the results of the analysis of this research. The results of the research shows that acquisition of higher education by persons from socially vulnerable groups may be related with a variuos structural factros such as: access to various educational activities (non-formal education), positive school microclimate, teachers’ and school leaders’ belief in student success, prestige of teachers and school leaders, the social structure of the school (the similarity of the students in the class), understanding of the value of higher education and financial affordability of higher education. |
